When people talk about denim breeches, Levi's would obviously be figured in the discourse otherwise the people participating in that specific conversation must have been living under the rock. It is a powerful name, if not the most powerful, in the breeches industry that was grasping a century-long fame that can not be possibly equaled by any other more recent brands in existence.
Not known to many, the founder of the company that manufactures and distributes everybody's favorite Levi's breeches was actually a German who migrated to New York in 1847, making the brand specially the brainchild of Germany's son. Loeb Strauss (a.k.a. Levi Strauss) initially worked with his brothers on a family-owned firm that was named J.Strauss Brothers & Co before leaving for San Francisco to lodge a career and name of his own in the dry goods industry. In 1853, the Levi Strauss & Co was born, providing dry goods from handkerchiefs to clothes to breeches to the many prospectors of the California Gold Rush and emerging later on as the most outstanding moneymaker of the bunch. The functional and dashing blue breeches that we know today, originally called "waist overalls", were introduced to adhere the complaints of the miners against the cotton trousers they use to work.
