A First-rate German Music Virtuoso
Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist who is well-known as one of history's unsurpassed composers. He was also the prime figure in the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western usual music. This exceptional musician and composer has inspired many budding composers and musicians and at the same time, nevertheless, there are still who felt intimidated with his achievements.
This virtuoso was born in Bonn, Germany but he moved to Vienna, Austria during his early twenties, and in the end settled there. A very unhappy thing happened on him during his late twenties when he begun to lose his hearing, nevertheless he continued to make excellent masterpieces throughout his life in the face of this problem. Unknown to many, he is one of the first author who worked as a freelancer, who fixed subscription concerts and sell his compositions to publishers. He also gained financial boost from a number of rich patrons instead of employed permanently by the Church or by an aristocratic court.
Fittingly, Beethoven was influenced by the standards of the Enlightenment and by the growing Romanticism in Europe. Firstly, he dedicated his third symphony, the Eroica to Napoleon in the belief that the general would sustain the democratic and republican standards of the French Revolution. But in 1804, he removed the title page where he had written a keenness to Napoleon, as Napoleon's imperial ambitions became clear-cut.
